Bark & Mulch Installation

Overview

Bark and mulch do more than finish a bed visually. A properly installed layer suppresses weeds, holds moisture through the dry stretch of summer, and buffers soil temperature for whatever's planted underneath. We typically install to a depth of two to three inches; much more than that can actually smother root systems and trap excess moisture against stems, which is a common mistake with DIY installs.

We work with a range of bark and mulch types, from natural fir and hemlock bark to finer shredded mulch, and cut clean, defined edges around every bed so the finished look reads intentional, not just dumped and spread. Because bark breaks down over time (faster in beds that get a lot of direct sun or foot traffic), most properties look their best with a fresh layer every one to two years.
